These grants are awarded by schools and provide assistance for undergraduates with the greatest financial need. The program gives priority to students who receive Federal Pell Grants.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) are aid for undergraduates with exceptional financial need. Pell Grant recipients with the lowest Expected Family Contributions (EFCs) will be the first to get SEOGs. These are grants, so they don't have to be paid back. SEOG award amounts can be between $100 and $4,000 and are different at each school, depending on the available funding and the number of eligible students at that school. Your financial need and how early you apply can also affect your award. These grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or a professional degree.
Because the amount of available funding at your school can determine whether you receive an SEOG award, it can be important to apply very early if you want to be considered for an SEOG. Check with the school you would like to attend to find out the requirements for an SEOG award at that school.
If you're eligible, your school will credit your account, pay you directly (usually by check), or combine these methods. Your school must pay you at least once per term (semester, trimester, or quarter).
