January Scholarships

Ronald McDonald Scholarship
Deadline: Jan. 27, 2012 To apply for an RMHC scholarship, a student must: Be a high school senior, be younger than 21 years old, e eligible to attend a two- or four-year college, university or technical school with a full course of study, be a legal U.S. resident, live in a participating RMHC Chapter’s geographic area, submit a complete application and all required documentation by the deadline on the application, meet any additional eligibility requirements outlined by each scholarship program, provide verification of enrollment each year at respective accredited post-secondary institution. OK-AHEAD Scholarship

OK-AHEAD offers scholarship money to Oklahoma students with disabilities. Scholarships can be applied at any Oklahoma technology center, or any two-year or four-year college or university. Three scholarships in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded annually.

Chickasaw Nation Foundation Scholarships
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2012

DELTA THETA CHI COLLEGE SOROITY SCHOALRSHIPS 
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2012
A national non-collegiate educational sorority is accepting applications for three scholarships: two $3,000 awards and one $1,400 award. Requirements call for a high scholastic average; evidence of financial need; current enrollment or plans to enroll in an accredited college; and an application form, with attachments as specified by the national executive council. All applications must be complete and returned by Feb.1, 2012 in order for winning applicants to be notified by May 2012. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and must be submitted and accepted through a chapter of Delta Theta Chi Sorority.

National Peace Essay Contest

Deadline: Feb. 1, 2012
This year’s topic is one that focuses on a subject matter just as relevant to students as it is to protestors in Cairo, Tehran, and Kenya: the impact of new media on peace building and conflict management. Typically each contest cycle sees a submission of over 1,000 essays from all American states, territories and the District of Columbia. All first-place state winners receive a $1,000 college scholarship and compete for national awards of $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500. Additionally, the first-place state winners are invited to attend an educational awards week in Washington D.C.

AFRL Phillips Scholar Program
Deadline: Feb. 6, 2012
To apply to the Phillips Scholars Program, you must be enrolled as an upper-level high school (junior, senior) or as a college undergraduate student. Phillips scholars gain hands-on experience while working with Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) scientists and engineers on cutting-edge research and technology. They will receive invaluable personal and professional experience while contributing to the future vision of space exploration and directed energy systems. Phillips Scholars positions may lead to part-time student employment. These opportunities exist in the AFRL’s Directed Energy and Space Vehicles Directorates, headquartered at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
•    Must be US Citizens; the scholars programs are not open to non-US Citizens, US Permanent Residents, or Dual Citizens.
•    Must currently be enrolled or accepted at an educational institution taking at least a half-time academic courses leading to a degree or certificate.
•    Must be continuing as a student in the Fall 2012 Semester (either in their current degree program, or by being accepted into another degree program). Important: Proof of Fall 2012 enrollment will be required from students that are selected for the internship.
•    Must be willing to temporarily relocate to Albuquerque, N.M. The Phillips Scholars program does NOT provide funds for relocation or housing above and beyond the salary that is offered for the position.
•    Must be at least 16 years old to apply.
•    Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
•    Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week).
•    Must be able to begin work on May 21, June 4, or June 18, 2012.

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program
Deadline: Feb. 9, 2012
KFC’s Scholarship provides up to $5,000 per year for graduating high school seniors with strong entrepreneurial skills, perseverance, demonstrated financial aid and scholastic achievement of  2.75 GPA or higher planning to enroll in a public college in the state in which they reside.

2012 Greater Oklahoma City Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: Feb. 11, 2012
The Greater OKC Alumnae PanHellenic Foundation is offering 15 scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to high school senior females who meet the following criteria: will be attending a university in Oklahoma with National PanHellenic Conference sorority affiliations in the fall of 2012.  Eligible universities include: Cameron University, East Central University, Northeastern State University, Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma State University, The University of Oklahoma, University of Central Oklahoma, and The University of Tulsa. Students must have a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.25 and no higher than 3.79 and a minimum score of 22 on the ACT.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation offers a 'Foundation of Promise Scholarship'.  The scholarship is in the amount of $1,200 and students who are the first generation in their families to attend college can apply their junior year.

National Commission for Cooperative Education
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2012
As the largest independently sponsored merit co-op scholarship in the United, States, the National Commission for Cooperative Education on behalf of ten partner colleges and universities will award 170 merit co-op scholarships of $6,000 each.  Your student can find additional information about this year’s scholarship program and complete an application on-line at the website listed below.

Sam Noble Scholarship Program
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2012
Scholarships through this program are available to eligible southern Oklahoma students in all stages of their academic pursuits – from incoming freshmen to those seeking graduate degrees.  Scholarships are offered in both agriculture-related and applied technology-related fields.
Agriculture: Scholarships for students seeking undergraduate degrees in agriculture-related fields are $2,500 per semester for up to nine semesters. Scholarships for graduate students provide $3,125 per semester for up to five semesters.
Technology: Scholarships for students seeking associate's degrees or technical certifications from the specific institutions listed under "Qualifying Institutions" are awarded $3,750 per year for up to two years.

Military Commanders Scholarship Fund
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2012
High schools seniors may apply for this $5,000 scholarship if they are the dependent child of an active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired member of the U.S. military. Applicant must have valid exchange and commissary shopping privileges and a minimum 3.5 GPA. Recipients will be selected on academic record, leadership, participation and financial need.

Oklahoma Heritage Scholarship
Deadline: Feb. 17, 2012
Each year, the Oklahoma Heritage Association offers more than $650,000 in scholarships to high school students who have paid attention in their Oklahoma history classes. In the Oklahoma Heritage Scholarship Competition, ninth through 12th grade students take a test on Oklahoma history. Those with high scores in each county receive a $1,000 cash scholarship or tuition grant to an Oklahoma college or university. Most counties have at least three scholarships available. OCPA Citizenship Essay Contest

The Oklahoma Council on Public Affairs essay contest awards scholarships in the amounts of $1,000 to $5,000. The essay topic this year is, “Is the U.S. Constitution a “living document”? Why or Why Not?

Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship Program
Deadline: Feb. 28, 2012
Shell will sponsor up to 20 one-year awards of $2,500 for graduating high school seniors enrolling in engineering or geosciences at universities identified by Shell.

The Oklahoma Heritage Association and Museum offers the $10,000 John W. and Mary D. Nichols scholarship to high school seniors. Students may be nominated for this scholarship by teachers or administrators not related to the student. The scholarship is based on the student’s demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Oklahoma history, as well as academic achievement, citizenship and leadership.
