Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

Take the higher-paying project

You decide that you need to go for the higher paying job. You rationalize it by thinking that it's only one building. But word gets out about your decision and your more ecologically inclined clients assume you don't want to work with them.

Work remains steady for you, but you feel that you're sitting back and watching as more green-minded architectural engineers are hailed for their innovative ideas. In fact, the person who ended up working on the other project won an award for her work.

You wish you had thought through to the long-term implications of each project instead of going for the quickest solution.

"What I find is people are too apt to jump to a decision," says Sustainability Consultant Wendy Macdonald. "Part of this process is to not make a decision right away, but to explore the options. You could very easily in this field get into problem-solving and reaction decision-making mode based on what's provided."
