Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

Take the environmentally friendly project

Thinking ahead, you decide to take the financial loss of the environmentally friendly project. Knowing the marketplace is changing towards more environmentally friendly buildings makes you realize that this is an area of your field you should be focusing on. It may mean a bit less money now, but in the long run it could easily mean more. Plus, although you've had to cut back a bit in your personal spending for the time being, you feel good knowing that your work has made a difference in the world.

You do a great job on this project and your reputation spreads. Soon, others are contacting you about projects that find both challenging and fulfilling.

"What I find is people are too apt to jump to a decision," says Wendy Macdonald. She's a sustainability consultant. "Part of this process is to not make a decision right away, but to explore the options. You could very easily in this field get into problem solving and reaction decision-making mode based on what's provided."
